Volume six presents four long chapters which justify the opening words of Voegelin's (1901-1985) best known book, The New Science of Politics: "The existence of man in political society is historical existence; and a theory of politics, if it penetrates to the principles, must at the same time be a theory of history." Voegelin discusses the conflict between Bishop Bossuet and Voltaire concerning the relationship between what is conventionally identified as sacred history and profane history. This volume also includes a textual analysis of Giambattista Vico's La scienza nuova, which can be read (with the chapters on Bodin and Schelling in other volumes) as an element of Voegelin's own spiritual autobiography. “Historical experience shows that any country or nation that wants to survive, develop and steadfast with its era must have its own political ideology or must choose the appropriate ideology. At the same time, historical experience also shows that this choice is only correct, when on the one hand comes from the reality of the country, from the personality of the nation, from the earnest desire of the people, and on the other hand, must be consistent with the law of the inevitable and objective development of the society. Ho Chi Minh's political thought is the development path of the Vietnamese revolution not only in the history of national liberation, but also in the era of integration ” MAIN AUTHOR: ASSO PROF.DR. In Arab Revolution in the 21st Century?, Nader Fergany presents a compassionate analysis of the Arab popular uprisings in the 21st century, with particular reference to the cases of Egypt and Tunisia. Under authoritarian rule, relentless injustice creates the objective conditions for expressions of popular protest which may culminate in popular uprisings, as witnessed in many Arab countries at the end of the first decade of the 21st century. Unsurprisingly, the slogans of the Arab Liberation Tide (ALT) popular revolts centered around freedom, implying sound democratic governance, social justice, and human dignity for all. In reality, the short-lived governance arrangements which followed the...
Named a best book of the year by The Guardian and The Telegraph Why do some people become radicalized? How do ideologies shape the human brain? And how can we unchain our minds from toxic dogmas? In The Ideological Brain, Leor Zmigrod reveals the deep connections between political beliefs and the biology of the brain. Drawing on her cutting-edge research, she exposes the complex interplay between cognition and environment that predisposes some individuals to inflexible ways of thinking. The human brain faces a set of dilemmas every day: how to achieve coherence from fragmented sensory inpsuts and how to attain connection with other people in an increasingly atomized and isolating world. Ideo...
